The Taliban’s return to power has changed life as Afghans knew it. Now, girls are banned from school, women cannot exit their homes without being accompanied by a male relative, and anyone who supports individual freedoms is at risk.

Hassan Ali Faiz is an Afghan human rights defender. He has lived through two major conflicts in his country and survived the persecution of his community, the Hazaras. After living as a refugee, he came back to Afghanistan with the hope to bring change. When the Taliban again seized power in August 2021, his dream came to a halt.
