The 2009 annual report shows that the OMCT has maintained a high level of urgent interventions for individual cases and has put more emphasis on the follow-up of cases that have been submitted. Also, a larger number of complaints and interventions in the form of amicus curiae briefs were submitted to the courts to encourage them not to allow perpetrators – whether they are State actors or individuals – to escape their punishment.
- In 2009, OMCT succeeded in following up on the urgent interventions sent out in 37.2% of cases.
- The OMCT held two regional seminars and a seminar on the UN Special Procedures with the members of the SOS-Torture Network.
- The OMCT carried out 15 missions to the field within the framework of the Observatory for the protection of human rights defenders and implemented two preparatory field mission within the framework of the new Children’s Rights project entitled "Monitoring the Treatment of Children Deprived of Liberty."
